KUCHING: A familiar voice that accompanied REDfm listeners through their afternoons and late nights has fallen silent following the passing of presenter Azrani Azmi.
Known to listeners as DJ Zack, the 47-year-old was more than the voice behind the microphone, having also worked as a radio producer, voice actor and emcee.
His broadcasting profile listed him as the announcer for REDfm English programmes Midday Mix and After 9.
He also hosted House of Dance, a Saturday night segment that gave local disc jockeys a platform to share their music with listeners.
Over the years, DJ Zack represented REDfm in broadcasts beyond his regular programmes, including a special link-up with TRAXXfm in conjunction with Sarawak Day in 2022.
He was also involved in a nationwide Face to Face broadcast featuring presenters from REDfm, SabahVfm and LangkawiFM alongside Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil that same year.
More recently, he joined Fuad Rahim in presenting daily updates on the 2024 Malaysia Games held in Sarawak, bringing the excitement of the sporting event to REDfm listeners.
According to a report, Azrani passed away on Tuesday night (Sept 22) after he was found unconscious by a colleague at the RTM Sarawak office at about 8.40pm.
He was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital, with emergency assistance administered along the way, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
His passing was later confirmed by a medical officer, while the cause has yet to be determined.
