LEADING Chinese tech company DJI has officially introduced its latest smartphone gimbal, the Osmo Mobile 8, featuring a range of upgrades over its predecessor. The new model offers 360-degree rotation, enhanced tracking capabilities, improved lighting, and expanded connectivity options.
The Osmo Mobile 8 retains DJI’s signature three-axis stabilisation system but now supports unlimited 360-degree horizontal rotation, enabling users to capture smooth panoramic footage and dynamic tracking shots. It also continues to feature a built-in extension rod, providing greater flexibility for low-angle videos or selfies.
A notable addition is the new multi-function tracking module, which combines subject tracking, audio recording, and an integrated fill light with adjustable brightness and colour temperature. The light module includes motion detection, allowing the gimbal to automatically follow subjects without manual control. Gesture support is also available, letting users start or stop recording and adjust focus with simple hand movements.
Powered by the new ActiveTrack 7.0 system, the Osmo Mobile 8 promises smoother and more reliable subject tracking, even during fast-paced movements. Through the DJI Mimo app, users can also enjoy dual-camera tracking, enabling simultaneous use of both front and rear smartphone cameras.
In terms of design, DJI has introduced a fourth-generation magnetic clamp, engineered to better support larger and heavier smartphones, including those with prominent camera modules. The gimbal is compatible with both grip and magnetic mounts, including Apple’s MagSafe system.
Battery life is rated at up to 10 hours, and the device can double as a power bank via its USB-C port. It is also compatible with DJI’s latest audio accessories, such as the DJI Mic 3, Mic Mini, and other Mic series products.
In China, the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is priced at CNY898 (approximately RM532) and comes with the OM Magnetic Phone Clamp 4, tracking module, charging cable, and additional accessories. A Vlog Kit bundle is also available for CNY997 (around RM591). Pricing and availability for other regions, including Malaysia, have yet to be announced.
