KUCHING: Discover Muaythai (DMT) has reached a new milestone by taking a group of Sarawakian youths overseas for the first time, giving many of them their first opportunity to own a passport and travel abroad through the sport.
Eight participants from DMT Rentap Batch 13 recently travelled to Bangkok, Thailand, for an intensive training camp at the Superbon Muaythai Academy, where they trained alongside leading Muaythai figures, including Superbon, Nong-O Hama, Rambolek and renowned coach Trainer Gae.
DMT chief executive officer Imran Harith said the initiative was about creating opportunities beyond the sport.
“This trip was never just about producing better fighters.
“It was about expanding horizons. It was about showing these young people that the world is bigger than the circumstances they were born into.
“Sometimes, all it takes is one opportunity, one passport, one journey, and one person who believes in them to completely change the direction of a life,” he said.
Besides undergoing world-class training, the delegation also attended a ONE Championship event at the iconic Lumpinee Stadium, where Malaysian Muaythai star Johan Ghazali competed before an international audience, giving participants a close-up view of the sport at the highest level.
Beyond competition, DMT said the programme continues to focus on leadership development, life skills, education and vocational exposure, with the aim of helping underserved youths build meaningful futures both inside and outside the ring.
