KUCHING: DNA analysis has confirmed the identities of all five victims of the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash at Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, with their remains to be handed over to their families today (Sept 12).
A statement issued On Saturday by Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the Department of Chemistry Malaysia had completed the DNA analysis and successfully established the identities of all five victims.
The remains will subsequently be handed over to the respective families through the Pathology Department of Miri Hospital.
The victims were pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, and nurses Debra Moset and Jessie Paya Jok. They were killed when the BO 105 helicopter conducting an Flying Doctor Service (FDS) operation crashed near Long Lellang STOLport on Sept 8.
Post mortem examinations had earlier found that all five died from severe burn injuries sustained in the crash.
Sarawak Police also expressed appreciation to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia, Ministry of Health, Miri Hospital and other agencies involved in the operation, while conveying condolences to the victims’ families.
