SERIAN: The Serian District Council (MDS) will begin a dog-catching operation soon as part of efforts to curb the rising number of stray animals and reduce incidents of dog bites in areas under its jurisdiction.

In a notice issued yesterday (Dec 8), the council’s Animal Control Unit under the Public Health and Town Services Section said the operation would target dogs found roaming freely in public places without the supervision of their owners.

Owners have been advised to ensure all pets are secured within their compounds — either tied, locked in enclosures, or placed in gated areas — to prevent them from wandering into public spaces.

According to the council, any dog or cat found roaming freely without supervision will be classified as a stray and caught without compromise.

The notice also stated that no claims for captured dogs would be entertained as the Serian District had been gazetted as a rabies outbreak area.

The council said the operation was necessary to control the stray population and safeguard public safety.

For further enquiries, the public may contact the Animal Control Unit, Serian District Council, at 082-874154 during office hours.
