KUCHING: Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN) has launched a campaign in support of cancer patients with the theme “Give Your Locks, Give Them Hope” in conjunction with World Cancer Day (WCD) 2022.

The purpose of this campaign is to raise public awareness on cancer patient support by collecting donated locks of hair which will be turned into wigs for patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy.

SCAN is also appealing to the public for cash donations to fund the cost of turning the hair into wigs.

This campaign is a collaboration between SCAN and Locks of Hope Association.

Part of the proceeds will be used to support SCAN’s activities of advocacy and awareness, which is in line with WCD’s theme of “Close the Care Gap”.

“We hope to gather at least 100 hair donor fundraisers and to raise a minimum of RM150,000 for this first ever attempt at hair donation,” said  Sew Boon Lui, president of SCAN in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 19).

“Currently, we are working with two hairdressers/hair salons in Kuching, one in Sibu and another in Miri who have been engaged as our hair salon partners.

“We look forward to your great support and participation.”
