SARATOK: Youth have been reminded to exercise greater caution in their use of social media and to avoid spreading sensitive issues involving religion, race and the monarchy (3R) in order to preserve social harmony.
Krian assemblyman Friday Belik said the younger generation plays an important role in shaping today’s social landscape and must therefore be wise in evaluating information before sharing it on digital platforms.
“Young people need to be more careful in their use of social media and not be easily influenced by sensitive issues that could undermine social unity.
“We want to ensure that the harmony we enjoy today continues, and this requires cooperation from all parties, including the younger generation, to act more responsibly in every action,” he said when speaking at the tri-annual general meeting of the Krian Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) at Dewan Sri Krian here recently.
He also called on party members to continue strengthening unity and maintaining support for the party leadership and the state government to ensure development agendas can be implemented more effectively.
The meeting also saw Friday retained as president of Krian PDP, while Senator Pele Peter Tinggom was appointed as vice chairman II.
In addition, the PDP Youth and Women’s wings were dissolved to make way for new leadership appointments, with Riza Nalang named as Youth chief and Anie Isek as Women’s chief.
In a related development, Friday also proposed the construction of an overpass at the Saratok junction and the upgrading of the road from the junction to the town into a four-lane road to improve safety and convenience for road users.
The proposal is seen as a proactive measure to address traffic congestion and reduce the risk of accidents, which frequently occur in the area.
