SARAWAKIANS have been urged not to be influenced by elements that could disrupt political stability and the state’s vision of becoming a high-income, advanced economy by 2030.

Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, said political stability is a key condition for sustainable development, and he was happy that the political situation, particularly in Sarawak, remains stable.

He said this stability ensures continuous development and boosts investor confidence to invest in Sarawak.

“I am very pleased that Sarawak remains strong under the leadership of the Premier, which has enabled the state government to formulate and implement progressive, visionary, and people-centric policies.

“The socioeconomic prosperity we currently enjoy must be preserved by maintaining the political strength and stability that we now have,” he said in his speech during the opening of the Fourth Session of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

In terms of the people’s well-being, he expressed gratitude that the Sarawak Government is attentive to the welfare and well-being of those affected by the rising costs of living.

He added that numerous forms of assistance have been provided to those in need, including welfare aid, housing subsidies, healthcare and education support, as well as entrepreneurship assistance to help generate income.

“I would like to commend the Sarawak Government for introducing another meaningful initiative for those in need – the Sarawak Basic Necessities Contribution (SKAS),” he said.

He noted that through SKAS, significant impact has been made for those in need, as it has helped them purchase essential food items, thereby easing their burden amid rising living costs.

In addition, he said Sarawak has consistently been a model for preserving and strengthening unity and social harmony, as the state is rich in cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity.

“The Sarawak Government has proven that unity in diversity is the foundation of the state’s stability and progress.

“I urge the people to continue safeguarding and maintaining unity and harmony in Sarawak. We must respect one another and avoid touching on sensitive matters related to religion, race, and culture,” he said.
