NABAWAN: Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedict reminds the people against selling their land to get rich quickly.
On the other hand, he said their land must be looked after as it was part of the identity and dignity of every citizen, specifically residents staying in the interior areas.
“You work on the land. Don’t sell because it is the biggest heritage for the family… for children and great grandchildren. The land you own reminds us of who we are in the village. This is the power and value of the land to every resident.
“If you sell the land, its means you have wasted a 56-year struggle to get the grant on the land,” he said in his speech when launching a Sabah Native Land Services (Pantas) land grant programme in Sepulut yesterday.
The programme, organised by the Sabah Land and Survey Department (JTUS), involved the surveying of 817 ha land covering five villages, namely Panabaan, Tumura, Lotong, Balaron and Kambubunut.
Meanwhile, JTUS director Datuk Safar Untong, at the launching, said the federal government had channelled a special allocation for surveying Native Customary Rights (NCR) Land from 2012 until last year.
He added that a RM15 million allocation was channelled last year and this year RM20 million would be channelled by the federal government.
He said the Pantas programme was aimed at enabling JTUS to give the best service to achieve the vision of the government to improve the delivery system. – Bernama
