MIRI: A double-storey semi-detached house in Miri was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday afternoon (21 April), although no casualties were reported.
Firefighters received an emergency call at 2.55pm and were dispatched to Jalan Muria 10 in Pujut 2B, a residential area. Crews arrived within eight minutes to find the property already fully ablaze.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the two-storey house, measuring about 40 by 60 feet, was razed in the fire. The size is typical of a family home in the area.
Firefighters from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station used a 200-foot hose line fitted with two nozzles to combat the flames. The operation was prolonged due to the intensity of the blaze and lasted more than four hours, concluding at 7.20pm.
No injuries were reported. Officials said it was not immediately clear whether anyone had been inside the house when the fire broke out.
Senior officers, including Zone 6 chief PgKB I Ismaidi Ismail, were present at the scene to oversee the operation. The cause of the fire and the full extent of the losses are being investigated.
