MIRI: Police have issued 28 traffic summonses and detained four motorcycles during a late-night crackdown on illegal street racing and dangerous driving.
The operation, conducted between 10 pm on Saturday (May 3) and 2 am on Sunday (May 4), was led by the Miri district police headquarters’ Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.
The team, comprising a senior officer and 10 personnel, targeted known hotspots including Marina Utama and the Miri Bypass.
According to Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, 13 vehicles were inspected during the operation, with four motorcycles seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for structural modifications.
A total of 14 individuals were checked during the enforcement blitz, resulting in 28 summonses being issued for a range of traffic violations.
“Motorists, particularly motorcycle riders, are urged to drive responsibly, refrain from altering their vehicles, and avoid loitering on roadsides, which can cause congestion and disturb public peace,” ACP Farhan said in a statement.
He warned that reckless behaviour on the roads not only endangers offenders but also poses serious risks to other road users.
