KUCHING: The mother of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Puan Sri Datin Amar Lim Su Kheng, passed away yesterday.

Dr Sim shared the heartbreaking news on his Facebook page tonight, saying his mother had breathed her last at the age of 83.

“We are in deep grief over the passing of our beloved mother, Puan Sri Datin Amar Lim Su Kheng, at the family home this evening, surrounded by her loved ones.

“I lost a mother who had given me unconditional love throughout my whole life. Frugal on herself where she always reminded us she walked bare footed to school during WW2, but always generous with her motherly love to relatives, friends communities and the NGO charities close to her heart,” he said.

Dr Sim said his mother, the wife of the late and former Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong, had served as the first vice-president of Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-Isteri (Sabati).

She also held various positions within Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“Not just a politician’s wife to Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong, but also a doctor and a politician’s mother who carried the compassion and understanding for our long hours at work and away from the families over the years,” he said.

He added that his mother had been a devoted grandmother who played a significant role in the upbringing of her grandchildren, Enson and Simson, instilling family values and a love for Sarawak.

“Mummy, you will be deeply missed by every one of us,” he wrote.

Dr Sim also expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received from relatives and friends.

“Forever grateful for the support of immediate relatives, close family friends and palliative cares teams from Sarawak General Hospital’s oncology, Two Three Lodge, and iCare Home Nursing.

“Also for the understanding shown by my colleagues, friends all the different communities in Sarawak, allowing me to scale back my daily schedules over the last two months so I could spend precious time at my mum’s bedside,” he said.

Dr Sim said the wake will be held at the family house at 100, Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman, Kenyalang Park and funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.
