KUCHING: Once little known in 2016, Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) has grown alongside a changing Sarawak, a comparison highlighted by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the club’s 10th Anniversary Dinner.

Dr Sim said the club’s progress over the past decade reflects Sarawak’s broader transformation from 2016 to 2026, attributing the growth to long-term planning, structured development and collective effort.

“Just like Sarawak, PASC today is very different from what it was in 2016. Back then, not many people knew about the club, but today people look up to it,” he said.

In his address at 56 Hotel on Saturday, he congratulated PASC for producing hundreds of swimmers over the last 10 years, noting that the club has expanded from a small group of about 20 swimmers at its inception to more than 100 athletes today, supported by a growing number of coaches and volunteers.

Dr Sim said the club’s range of programmes, including intra- and inter-school competitions, short-course meets and training camps, has helped expose young swimmers to higher levels of competition while building a strong development pathway.

He added that the benefits of sport extend beyond medals and podium finishes, as structured training instils discipline, commitment and time management among young athletes.

“This is not just about swimming. It is about character-building for our young boys and girls through discipline and dedication,” he said.

Dr Sim said PASC’s journey demonstrates how sustained effort, teamwork and volunteerism can drive long-term success, adding that Sarawak’s continued progress depends on similar principles across all sectors.

Among those present at the anniversary dinner were Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) acting CEO Khairul Nizam Morshidi, Amateur Swimming Association of Sarawak president Pemanca Tan Kun Gee, and PASC adviser Voon Yong Hui.
