KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian is keeping alive a cherished family tradition of sending out 5,000 Chinese New Year (CNY) greeting cards, a custom started by his late father, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong.
Despite the digital age and the rise of electronic greetings, Dr Sim remains committed to preserving the values and significance tied to this practice.
“Many have asked me why I still hold on to such an old-fashioned tradition?
“I told them there are family values, cultural values and Sarawak values that I will treasure and carry on as long as I am capable,” he shared on his official Facebook page.
With less than two weeks until the Year of the Snake, Dr Sim is personally signing each card.
“I’m running out of time to manually sign my 5,000 CNY greeting cards,” he said.
He also extended the gesture to his social media followers, offering them the opportunity to receive one of the cards.
“To my social media friends, if you like to receive one of my CNY cards (while stock lasts), please fill up the form through this link below by this week, so that we can mail out to you, https://forms.gle/91Qzg1R2by4nMpvU6,” he said.
