SIBU: Drain cleaning works have begun along roadside drains near Telok Bango, West Bank, here, said Councillor Kevin Lau.
The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Chairman said that the process is being supervised by technical personnel from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).
“During Chinese New Year, my team and I visited several areas to assess the flood situation.
“It was during this time that Kapitan Tang Chuo Ging highlighted the issue, reporting that several drains in Telok Bango had slow drainage and were in urgent need of cleaning,” he said in a statement yesterday (Feb 23).
He noted that the section currently being cleaned runs from Hua Lai Road to the main drainage channel.
“As for the section from the main drainage channel to the mouth of the Rajang River, we will continue engaging with authorities to push for its cleaning, ensuring smooth wastewater discharge into the Rajang River,” he added.
Lau visited the site yesterday (Feb 23), accompanied by Tang, to inspect the cleaning progress.
He expressed gratitude to DID for its cooperation and stressed the importance of maintaining close communication with community leaders and government agencies to address issues in the Bawang Assan area.
