KUCHING: A drainage project costing RM100,000 will be implemented in Kampung Mambong near here to prevent the village from being flooded during rainy season.

Assistant Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil expressed concern over the constant flooding experienced by villagers due to the poor drainage system.

He said the project, under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), was approved last year but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I have personally seen some areas of the village being flooded back in 2020. The villagers have reached out to me about the matter and expressed their dissatisfaction about the drainage system.

“Thankfully, this RTP project has been approved. The implementing agency for this project is the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) and has handed over the project plan to the appointed contractor,” he said when visiting the village yesterday (Jan 7).

He hoped that villagers and the contractor would cooperate with each other so that the project could be done as soon as possible.

Dr Jerip informed that the church also experienced flooding before due to poor drainage system, adding that the drainage project would be done as soon as possible.

The Mambong assemblymen added that there were over 30 projects approved for Mambong area.

“The projects focus on the aspect of infrastructure, agriculture roads, drainage systems, among others,” he said.
