MIRI: The newly completed Rock Cliff and Forest Park at Miri Public Park Phase 4 Zone B still requires urgent upgrades particularly to its ineffective drainage system.
Minister of Transport and Senadin assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, highlighted the issue during a site visit to the project recently.
He said the project, implemented by the Miri City Council (MBM), was completed after 18 months of construction and reached practical completion on December 22, 2025, but initial assessments found that the internal drainage system is underperforming and requires immediate rectification.
Lee also underscored the importance of strengthening disabled-friendly (OKU) facilities, such as proper pathways and ramps, to ensure the park is inclusive and accessible to all visitors.

On the concept behind Rock Cliff Park, he said the development prioritises natural preservation by minimising the use of artificial materials to maintain the original rock cliff features.
Looking ahead, Lee proposed extending the development into a second phase – the Eco Park – which includes constructing the Green Wall of Miri using Eco Bricks, previously recognised by the Guinness World Records.
He said the initiative could become a new green landmark for Miri and support the Green Miri City agenda.
MBM has been directed to prepare a concept design and cost estimates for the Sarawak Government’s consideration.
At the end of his visit, Lee stressed the need for prompt improvement works focusing on drainage, defect repairs, and OKU facilities to ensure visitor safety and comfort.
