DARO: A 30-year-old dream has come true for Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg with yesterday’s ground breaking ceremony for the proposed Muara Lassa Bridge.

“For the past 30 years, I have thought that a bridge could be built linking Daro and Pulau Bruit,” he said at the site of the ceremony.

“Thanks to the strong unity we have today, the state government continues to develop the rural areas such as Tanjung Manis, Kapit and other areas.

“We will continue to help. As long as we remain united and have the funds, we will be able to carry out our plans.”

He said upon taking over as chief minister following the demise of Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, he was confident that he could implement big projects such as the RM600-million Muara Lassa Bridge.

“With the prayers of the people of Sarawak we are able to generate funds from taxes on oil and gas through our negotiations in the Cabinet.

“When we get our money back, we give it back to the people of Sarawak especially those in the rural areas,” he said.

Abang Johari is welcomed warmly by Mukah residents.

On Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), he said it is not prone to making empty promises.

“We don’t make promises that we can’t keep. That is why I am here today to fulfill the promise to build the Muara Lassa Bridge.

“We are implementing this project including water supply and electricity projects using the funds we have allocated prudently in the State Budget.

“A statement made by a federal minister saying that we will go bankrupt in three years is wrong. We are not ‘paloi’ (stupid),” he said.

He further emphasised that the people of Sarawak should be in-charge of their government as well as making promises to the people.

“The best thing about bridges in our state is that we do not impose tolls like in other states. This is a privilege we will continue to enjoy,” he said.
