SIBU: A 33-year-old man was on Tuesday (Dec 9) sentenced to a day’s imprisonment and fined RM10,000, in default, one month’s jail for riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol.
Ricky Meruddin from Kanowit pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Romario Jonoi.
He was found riding a motorcycle intoxicated well beyond permissible levels at about 10.35 pm along Channel Road on Nov 21.
The offence under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333/87) provides for imprisonment of up to two years and a fine of between RM10,000 and RM30,000.
Also an offender would be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving/riding licence for a period of not less than two years from the date of conviction.
The case was prosecuted by DPP Haris Mohamed Hassan.
Ricky who was not represented, failed to pay the fine.
