KUCHING: A 22-year-old local man has been arrested for flashing a replica gun out of a car window while driving at Jalan Keretapi intersection here.

He was yesterday following the incident that occurred on the same day.

District police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said initial interrogations revealed that the suspect admitted to being involved in the incident.

“Further checks confirmed the object he was holding was a replica gun,” he said in a statement.

Alexson added that a urine test conducted on the suspect also returned positive for drugs.

The suspect, who has two previous criminal records, has been remanded for three days until Jun 23 to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.

He is also being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

The police urge anyone with further information about the incident to contact investigating officer ASP Tan Kian Kok, at 010-5661576 or to report to the nearest police station.

Earlier, a nine-second clip showing the driver waving what appeared to be a handgun at the said intersection went viral on social media.
