THE fake road tax sticker displayed on the car windscreen.

KUCHING: A driver was arrested by traffic policemen for displaying a fake road tax sticker on the car he was driving yesterday.

A traffic police team from the Padawan District Police Headquarters led by ASP Muhamad Rizal Alias was conducting an operation behind a bank at Kota Sentosa at around 11.00am when they noticed a car parked on a yellow line near an eatery.

Upon checking they found out that the road tax sticker and car plate numbers were fake.

A man from Lundu who came to fetch the car was arrested and taken to a police station for questioning. He was released on police bail after his statement was recorded.

According to the police, the case will be investigated under Section 108 (1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987 for exhibiting a fake road tax. The offender is liable to a maximum fine of RM5,000 or one year’s jail upon conviction.

The police also urged crime victims in Padawan, Siburan, Tapah, Beratok, Batu Kawa, Matang and Kota Sentosa to immediately call their hotline at 082-862233 so that swift action can be taken against the culprits.
