SIBU: A local man cheated death after his car skidded off the road and burst into flames near Simpang Kanowit here last night (Dec 14).
The Hyundai Atos he was driving is believed to have gone out of control before crashing by the roadside and catching fire shortly after.
The driver, whose identity was not known, managed to escape on his own moments before the blaze intensified.
He was taken to Kanowit Hospital in an ambulance before firefighters arrived at the scene. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
Firefighters from Sibu Jaya station was dispatched to the scene, about 22km away, following an emergency call at 8.05pm.
By the time they arrived, the car was already completely destroyed by fire.
Firefighters carried out extinguishing work using water from the fire engine before ending the operation at 8.53pm.
