BINTULU: A Perodua Alza caught fire at Batu 27, Jalan Bintulu-Miri here yesterday afternoon, leaving its engine completely destroyed.
The driver sustained minor burns while attempting to put out the flames.
The incident was reported at 2.31pm, prompting fire and rescue personnel from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to be dispatched to the scene.
By the time firefighters reached the scene, the vehicle owner had successfully doused the flames using water from a nearby open source.
“No firefighting operations were necessary upon our arrival. Our team conducted safety monitoring to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and that no re-ignition occurred,” it said in a report.
The driver, who suffered minor burns on his left hand while putting out the fire, did not require emergency medical treatment. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
