BAU: A driver was issued a summons after a video showing his vehicle making an illegal U-turn at KM11 Jalan Bau–Batu Kawa went viral on social media.
Bau police chief DSP Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the traffic investigation and enforcement division (BSPT) detected the dashcam recording uploaded on the Facebook page ‘Sarawak Road Update’ at about 1.07pm on Feb 18.
The footage showed a Perodua Viva making a U-turn at a clearly marked no U-turn zone.
He said further investigations led to the identification of the driver, who was instructed to present himself at the Bau district police headquarters.
Yesterday (Feb 19) at about 4.40pm, the driver “surrendered” himself for further investigation and admitted to committing the offence.
A summons was issued under Rule 13 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59 for making a prohibited U-turn.
Mohd Haide reminded road users that traffic signs are installed based on safety assessments and accident risk factors at specific locations.
He said making an illegal U-turn could endanger not only the driver but also other road users.
