SARATOK: A lorry driver sustained injuries after his vehicle was involved in a collision with another lorry near the Wong Limat junction in Krian last night (May 13).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Saratok station were dispatched to the scene, about 21km away, following a distress call at 10.04pm.
Upon arrival, they found that the accident involved a three-tonnes lorry driven by the 32-year-old victim, and a 16-tonnes lorry operated by a 29-year-old man with a 24-year-old female attendant.
Both vehicles were transporting oil palm fruits at the time of the accident.
Initial investigations suggest the collision occurred when the 16-tonne lorry, while climbing a hill, experienced brake failure and rolled backward, crashing into the front of the three-tonne lorry.
The impact left the victim trapped in his seat, but members of the public managed to free him before the firefighters arrived.
He was later taken to Saratok Hospital for further medical treatment. The extent of his injuries was not known.
Meanwhile, the other lorry driver and his attendant escaped unscathed in the accident.
