BINTULU: A driver and his passenger were injured after their five-tonne lorry veered out of control and crashed to the roadside near Bulatan Selungun, Samalaju last night (Dec 27).
The accident happened at around 9.15 pm when the lorry, which was not carrying any load, had reportedly gone off the road by about 15 metres near the roundabout.
One of the victims managed to get to a safe area by the roadside, while the other was still lying at the cargo area of the lorry in a semi-conscious state.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Samalaju station were dispatched to the scene, about 10km away, following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, the team conducted an initial size-up and administered early treatment for the injured victims.
Both men, whose identities are not known, were handed over to paramedics to be transported to the hospital for further care.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 9.55 pm.
