BAU: A late-night drive turned deadly for two men when their car collided head-on with a pickup truck along KM11.5 of Jalan Bau-Serikin early this morning (May 18).

The accident, involving a Perodua Myvi and a Toyota Hilux, happened around 12.05am as both vehicles were heading in opposite directions.

According to Bau police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer, the Myvi was travelling from Serikin towards Bau when it suddenly veered out of control at a corner and entered the opposite lane — straight into the path of the Hilux heading towards Kampung Bogag.

“Following that, the victims in the Myvi were rushed to Bau Hospital for further treatment.

“Unfortunately, the Myvi driver, a 57-year-old local, was pronounced dead while en route to the hospital. His front seat passenger, a 52-year-old Indonesian, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 73-year-old Hilux driver walked away from the accident unscathed.

Dr Daram said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Those with information on the accident, to come forward and assist in the investigation or contact the nearest police station.

He also reminded motorists to remain vigilant on the roads, especially during unpredictable weather, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition.
