BAU: A local man injured in a three-vehicle crash earlier this month died after nearly two weeks of treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the accident occurred around 11.50 am on Sept 16 at KM4.5, Jalan Bau-Kuching near SJK Chung Hua Paku.

Investigations found that the victim, who was driving a car to Kuching from Bau, had attempted to make a sudden right turn into a junction without signaling.

A lorry approaching from the opposite direction could not brake in time and collided with the car, hitting its front and left side.

The impact caused both vehicles to veer off and crash into a Toyota Hilux that was waiting to exit the junction.

“The driver of the car succumbed to his injuries at SGH yesterday (Sept 28), after receiving treatment for 12 days.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Haide urged those with information on the incident, to come forward or contact the nearest police station to facilitate investigations.

He advised road users to exercise caution, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and practise tolerance on the road for the safety of all.
