SARIKEI: Due to the negligence of a young female driver, two teenage boys were seriously injured in an accident involving three motorcycles and a car along Jalan Nyelong Bypass here last night.
The incident occurred at around 9:45 pm when the car driven by a 22-year-old woman exited from Jalan Lajung and turned right onto the main road without yielding to oncoming traffic.
District police chief Superintendent Aswandy Anis said during the incident, three motorcycles ridden by three teenage boys were travelling along Jalan Nyelong Bypass in the opposite direction, heading towards Sarikei Town.
“As a result of the driver’s reckless action, the three teens were unable to avoid the car and crashed into its side,” he said in a statement today.
He said the impact of the collision caused severe damage to the front of all three motorcycles, while the car only sustained a shattered front windscreen and a dent on the right side.
“Two of the motorcyclists, aged 16 and 18, suffered serious injuries to their arms and legs, while the other teenager, aged 17, sustained only minor injuries.
“All three were rushed to Sarikei Hospital by a medical team at around 10:30 pm for further treatment,” he said.
He added that initial investigations found the accident was caused by the car driver’s failure to stop and give way to vehicles on the main road.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving, resulting in an accident.
Meanwhile, members of the public who witnessed the incident or have any relevant information are urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Ahmad Mustaqim, at 010-4427240 to assist with the investigation.
