KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak took enforcement actions against 234 road users and issued non-compliance notices for various offences during a traffic operation along Autorin Road, Kuching–Samarahan Expressway last night (July 17).

The operation, codenamed Ops Pengarah Bil. No. 11/2025, was conducted from 7.30 pm to midnight and saw a total of 936 vehicles inspected.

Among the most common offences recorded was driving without a valid licence, with 66 cases detected.

Eleven vehicles were also seized for various serious offences.

JPJ Sarawak said ongoing issue of unlicensed drivers shows that a degree of negligence and disregard still exists among certain road users regarding the importance of possessing a valid driving licence under the law.

“We take the issue of driving without a licence seriously, as it is not only a legal violation but can also have negative consequences for the driver, the vehicle owner, and the safety of other road users.

“Every action taken is not merely punitive but aims to educate and emphasise that road safety is a shared responsibility that must not be taken lightly,” it said in a statement.

The department also said it will continue to reinforce its commitment to ensuring compliance with traffic laws to ensure that roads remain safe and uphold traffic integrity.

The operation involved 37 officers and enforcement personnel led by JPJ Sarawak deputy director Norazlan Ibrahim.
