KOTA SAMARAHAN: A vibrant blend of traditional delicacies, live music and nostalgic village charm drew a steady stream of visitors to the Aidilfitri open house hosted by Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim Sunday (Mar 29).
Despite a light morning drizzle, the event held at the Stakan Service Centre Campus Hub, brought together people from all walks of life, reflecting the spirit of unity synonymous with Sarawak’s festive celebrations.
Guests were treated to an extensive spread of local favourites, including mi kolok, apam balik, fruit rojak, roti canai, mi Jawa and grilled chicken, complemented by a variety of refreshing beverages from dedicated stations.
“I am pleased to see so many friends and guests attending as expected, even with the slight drizzle earlier this morning,” Hamzah told reporters when met at the event.
“As the weather improved, more visitors continued to arrive to enliven the celebration. On behalf of the Stakan Service Centre, I would like to thank everyone who joined us to celebrate today.”
The festive atmosphere was further bolstered by live performances, featuring a guest singer from Palembang, Indonesia, who performed classic Malay hits from the 1990s.
They were joined by a group of sibling musicians from Peninsular Malaysia who showcased their talents with contemporary Hari Raya renditions.
A standout attraction was the kampung-inspired photo booth, meticulously decorated with vintage bicycles, oil lamps, a traditional swing and verandah décor, allowing visitors to capture memories in a rustic, heritage setting.
The open house was also attended by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang, and Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, along with representatives from various local agencies and organisations.
