KABONG: A local man with a long trail of past offences was arrested for alleged involvement in substance abuse yesterday (Jan 20).
The arrest was made by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID), following intelligence gathered on a suspected drug user.
Led by Insp Asraf, the team detained the 27-year-old suspect for crime prevention measures.
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the suspect was later taken to the police station, where a urine screening test was conducted.
“The test returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks found the man is no stranger to the law, with nine prior criminal records linked to various offences,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which deals with drug consumption.
Upon conviction, the offence provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, and placed under two years of supervision under Section 38B of the same Act.
