SIBU: The Sibu Anti-Drug Squad (SADS) continues to strengthen its commitment to drug prevention efforts through its involvement in the Gotong-Royong Programme organised by the Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth at the Al-Qadim Mosque here on Saturday.
The programme was officiated by Al-Qadim Mosque Management Committee Chairman, Suhardy Busserah, and involved activities to clean the mosque’s surroundings.
Also held was a session to present certificates of appreciation to the organisers, presented by the SADS representative, Zakaria Mohamad.
According to a statement issued by SADS, the initiative is part of the solidarity of the drug prevention programme as well as the activities in nurturing the urban community through the MADANI approach which emphasises care, wellbeing and inclusivity.
The statement added that the active participation of local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as the Pemuda PBB Ranting Abang Barieng and Pemuda PBB Ranting Kampung Datu Baru highlighted the spirit of close cooperation between the Anti-Drug Squad and the PBB Youth.
“In addition to strengthening relationships, this gotong-royong programme also serves as a platform for the community to obtain information on drug prevention efforts and opportunities to participate in healthy lifestyle activities.
“This programme also serves as a platform for advocacy and early intervention so that the community is more aware of addiction issues in their respective areas,” it shared.
It said that SADS will continue to expand such programmes as part of a national movement to strengthen volunteerism and increase community resilience from the threat of drugs.
