SARATOK: A suspected drug operation was dealt a major blow after narcotics police raided an unnumbered house in Kampung Tanjong yesterday (Jun 17), arresting two local men and seizing suspected syabu.

The operation, conducted by the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) in collaboration with the Saratok NCID, resulted in the seizure of 14.83g of suspected syabu with an estimated street value of RM1,631.60.

Police also confiscated RM1,310 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking, along with two Vivo phones suspected to have been used in the illegal activity.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said officers searched the house and recovered two plastic packets and two straw tubes containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu.

“The suspects, aged 48 and 45, are both labourers from Saratok.

“Initial urine screening found the older suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while the younger man tested negative,” he said.

Both suspects are being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession.

Mathew added that the 48-year-old is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act after testing positive for drug use.

He said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to a wider drug trafficking network operating in the district.
