MUKAH: Two labourers who tried to escape from police during a narcotics raid at an oil palm plantation along Jalan Lama Metading-Selangau were swiftly taken into custody on Monday (Jan 5).

The local suspects, aged 23 and 29, were arrested by a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID).

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the duo attempted to flee on spotting police and became aggressive, forcing officers to use minimal force to subdue and detain them.

“Further inspections led to the discovery of two straw tubes containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.

“The seized drugs were estimated to weigh 0.41g and 0.43g respectively, with a total value of RM220,” he said.

Urine screening tests later found both suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Both have been remanded to assist investigations until Jan 8 and Jan 9 respectively.

Rizal stated that the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
