KUCHING: Police operations at entertainment outlets along Jalan Canna here led to the arrest of 20 individuals after they tested positive for drugs.
The operations were carried out by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters together with the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
During the first raid, police inspected 20 men and women at one of the premises.
Initial urine screening tests found 12 individuals positive for drugs and they were arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, another team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, the Criminal Investigation Division, and Tabuan Jaya Police Station conducted a separate inspection at another entertainment outlet in the same area.
In that operation, 43 individuals were inspected and eight were found to have tested positive for drugs.
They were also arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police said enforcement and monitoring at entertainment outlets will be carried out continuously to prevent drug abuse activities.
The operations were conducted as part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and the well-being of the community.
