LUNDU: A raid which led to the seizure of RM1.575 million of drugs was carried out here on Mar 31, at around 9.50am, following a joint operation by Battalion 11 of the General Operations Force (PGA) Batu Kawa and the Lundu police headquarters (IPD)

The raid at KM 23, Teluk Melano led to the arrest of two foreign men, aged 25 and 36, who were found without valid travel documents.

Lundu police chief Supt Sudirman Kram said the suspects were detained while travelling in a silver Perodua Kancil.

“Upon inspection of the vehicle, police discovered a large quantity of suspected drugs,” he said in a statement.

Sudirman added that among the items seized were 500 vape cartridges containing suspected liquid cannabis, estimated to weigh 1.25kg, as well as 25 packages and three additional packets of crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 25kg and 3kg respectively.

He said the total seizure, estimated to be worth RM1.575 million, could potentially affect up to 140,500 users.

“Initial investigations indicate that the drugs were intended to be smuggled into a neighbouring country via illegal routes, commonly referred to as ‘jalan tikus’.

“Both suspects tested negative for drug use and have no prior criminal records,” he stated.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

“The suspects will be remanded for seven days from Apr 2 to 8 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist in further investigations.

“Police are currently tracking down other members of the syndicate believed to be still at large, in efforts to dismantle the network completely,” he said.

Sudirman said the success of the operation was the result of continuous intelligence efforts and cooperation from the public.
