KOTA SAMARAHAN: An overnight anti-drunk driving operation led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man after he was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
The local suspect was among 88 individuals screened during ‘Ops Mabuk’, mounted by Kota Samarahan traffic police at Jalan La Promenade from 11:30 pm on June 23 until 4:00 am today (June 24).
A total of 85 vehicles were stopped and inspected during the operation.
Police said two motorists underwent preliminary alcohol screening using the SD2+ breathalyser, a device used to rapidly detect the presence of alcohol in a driver’s system before further enforcement action is taken.
Results found one of them positive for alcohol, while the other tested negative.

If convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol, he can face imprisonment of up to two years, a fine up to RM30,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for two years.
Aside from drunk-driving arrest, police also issued 27 traffic summonses for various road offences detected throughout the operation.
Police said similar operations will continue to be intensified from time to time as part of ongoing efforts to keep intoxicated drivers off the roads, improve road safety, and reduce the risk of alcohol-related crashes.
