KUCHING: Sarawak’s Bumiputera entrepreneurs are set for stronger academic and industry support under a new chamber-university partnership.
Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch to strengthen cooperation between academia and the entrepreneurship sector.
The agreement, signed at Serapi Hotel here, is aimed at empowering Bumiputera entrepreneurs in Sarawak through capacity-building programmes, research, innovation, professional training, knowledge transfer, and sustainable human capital development.
Through the MoU, both organisations will explore cooperation in entrepreneurship development, research and innovation, professional training, talent development, expertise-sharing, academic and industry programmes, as well as other initiatives that can benefit the Bumiputera business community in Sarawak.
DUBS President, Datuk Abang Helmi Ikhwan, described the signing as a shared commitment to strengthen Sarawak’s Bumiputera entrepreneurship ecosystem through academic expertise, research and industry experience.
Meanwhile, UiTM Sarawak Branch’s Rector, Prof Dr Firdaus Abdullah, stressed the importance of strategic cooperation between universities and industry in producing competitive entrepreneurs who can meet the needs of the future economy.
The MoU was signed by Firdaus on behalf of UiTM and Abang Helmi on behalf of DUBS.
The signing was witnessed by UiTM Sarawak Branch’s Deputy Rector for Student Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr Saimi Bujang. and DUBS Vice-President, Dr Sulaiman Sahari.
In a statement, DUBS said that the strategic cooperation is expected to serve as a catalyst for the development of more competitive, innovative and sustainable entrepreneurs.
It is also expected to support Sarawak’s aspiration to become a high-income economy while strengthening the role of Bumiputera entrepreneurs as drivers of the state’s economic development.
