Duo arrested for drug abuse in Ops Tapis

SARATOK: A routine anti-drug operation here turned successful when police arrested two local men who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine on Friday.

The suspects, aged 27 and 36, were rounded up during an ‘Ops Tapis’ operation conducted by a special task force and personnel of the Saratok District Criminal Investigation Department (BSJD).

Saratok District Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said acting on public tip-offs, the special task force moved in on the duo at around Saratok between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

“They were later taken to the Saratok Police Station for urine screening, which confirmed the presence of the banned substances,” he said in statement on Saturday.

Checks also revealed that the 27-year-old suspect had two previous criminal records under Sections 379 and 431A of the Penal Code, while the other suspect had a clean record.

Meanwhile, the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
