MERADONG: Two local men, aged 28 and 32, were arrested on Jan 21 for their alleged involvement in the theft of a fibre boat and a Tohatsu 9.8HP engine.

Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the suspects were detained at the Bintangor market around 5.30 pm by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) here.

“Investigations revealed that both men led police to the location where the stolen boat and engine had been hidden, allowing the items to be recovered and brought back to the police station for further action.

“Urine tests conducted on the suspects also returned positive results for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” he said.

Both men are currently remanded and are being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. If convicted, they face a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine, or both.

Tansli also reminded the public to refrain from engaging in criminal activities and urged members of the community to cooperate with authorities by providing information on any criminal activity to ensure public safety and security.
