KUCHING: Two good friends were sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment and fined RM2000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today on a charge of stealing a bag filled with anchovies (ikan bilis) weighing 10 kilograms at a supermarket at Jalan Matang on Feb 14.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali passed the sentence on Nor Atiqah Abdullah, 29, and Siti Hajar Yussop, 23, after they both pleaded guilty to the charge read to them by an interpreter.

Failure to pay the fine would mean they would need to be jailed two months in default.

The court ordered them to serve their sentence on the day of their arrest on Feb 16.
