MUKAH: Two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs after police intercepted a suspicious four-wheel-drive vehicle along Jalan Bukut, Balingian, on Monday (Mar 30).
They were picked up at about 12.45pm on Mar 30 by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Mukah district police headquarters (IPD).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspects, aged 24 and 30, were detained during an inspection of their vehicle near a heavy vehicle workshop in the area.
“Further checks inside the vehicle led to the discovery of a transparent straw tubes containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, or syabu, stored in a cigarette box,” he said in a statement.
He added that the seized drugs weighed 0.38 gram.
“Both suspects, who work as labourers, were taken to IPD Mukah for further action.
“A urine screening test conducted on the suspects found the 30-year-old man positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while the younger suspect tested negative,” he stated.
He said that the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug use.
“Both suspects have been remanded for three days until Apr 4 to facilitate investigations,” he stated.
