SARIKEI: Two young men landed in police custody after officers allegedly uncovered 17 vape cartridges filled with suspected cannabis liquid in their possession yesterday (May 19).
The suspects, aged 22 and 23, were found inside a Toyota Vios parked behind a building along Jalan Nyelong Bypass when the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) moved in at around 2pm.
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said the pair drew suspicion, prompting officers to inspect the vehicle and conduct checks on them.
“Further inspection led to the discovery of 17 black packets bearing a golden horse logo and the letter ‘H’, each containing vape cartridges filled with liquid believed to be cannabis-based drugs.
“The seized items weighed an estimated 42.5g in total,” he said.
Both the suspects and the drugs were taken to Sarikei NCID office for further actions.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to five years, along with up to nine strokes of the cane.
Aswandy said police will continue stepping up efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the district.
Members of the public are urged to report information on drug activities to Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID
hotline at 017-5929211.
