Duo jailed nine months each for theft

SIBU: Two youths were each sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today for committing theft.

Jerome Beludi, 23, of Sungai Lukut, Kanowit, and Hasniley Jaffry, 25, from Sungai Berangan Paloh, Sarikei, pleaded guilty to the joint charge which both understood and the consequences of their plea of guilt.

The charge against the duo stated that they had intentionally committed theft of one unit of outdoor air-conditioning compressor belonging to De Metrology Sdn Bhd Company at Jalan Intan, in front of its office on February 27, 2025, at about 10:30 pm.

The offence is listed under Section 379 of the Penal Code which provides for an imprisonment of up to seven years or fine or both upon conviction.

According to brief facts of the case, on February 28 at about 7:30 am, the company staff (complainant) was informed that a theft of an air conditioning compressor belonging to her company had occurred.

On June 23 at about 10:10 am, acting on information received, a team of police led by Insp. Andrew Umdum Isa arrested two youths at the roadside of Jalan Kampung Dato.

During interrogation, both accused admitted to have stolen the item.

The case was prosecuted by Insp. Kumareswaran Murugan before Magistrate Romario Jonoi.

Both accused have no legal representation.
