KUCHING: A late-night raid at an entertainment centre uncovered a sizeable haul of suspected ecstasy juice powder and pills, resulting in the arrest of two individuals early yesterday morning (May 17).
The operation was carried out at around 12.45am by a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the raid resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 22 and 23, comprising a local man and a foreigner.
“During inspections, the team allegedly discovered multiple packets containing substances believed to be drugs.
“Among the seizures were eight black plastic packets labelled “IP Man” and five white packets labelled “Juice Master”, containing suspected MDMA or ecstasy juice powder, weighing a total of 476.40g.
“Also seized was a pink rabbit-patterned packet containing 98 suspected ecstasy pills weighing about 54.52g. The estimated street value of the seized drugs was RM12,700,” he said.
Initial urine screening tests on both suspects returned negative for drugs.
Background checks further found that one of them has two prior records under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment and up to 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Alexson said the successful operation stemmed from continuous intelligence gathering and cooperation from the public.
He pointed out that police would not compromise with any party involved in drug abuse or trafficking activities as drug-related crimes as serious offences under the law.
Members of the public with information on drug activities can report them to Bukit Aman NCID at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID at 017-5929211.
