MIRI: Police have detained two local men suspected of attempting to steal cables along the Miri-Bintulu Road, an offence that authorities say poses serious risks to public safety and essential services.
The arrests were made during an operation led by officer-in-charge of the Miri Central Police Station, ASP Goldy Jangan, together with the station’s Crime Prevention team.
Officers also confiscated several tools believed to have been used in the attempted theft.
Both suspects are being held at the Miri Central Police Station’s lock-up pending police investigations on the case under Sections 379 and 511 of the Penal Code.
Police stressed that cable theft is not a trivial offence as it disrupts utilities and endangers communities.
The public has been urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to support ongoing crime prevention efforts in the district.
