KUCHING: National sprinter Jonathan Nyepa had to settle for silver as Miri’s Dylan Leo Saran powered to a 100m victory in 10.67s at the Sarawak Stadium.

The 19-year-old Dylan, of Iban-Kayan heritage, kept his stride consistent to clinch gold on home soil at the Borneo Games Kuching 2025, finishing just 0.03 seconds ahead of Jonathan, who clocked 10.70s.

Jonathan, who was also representing Sarawak, had a slow start in the final but managed to surge late to secure second place.

Sabah’s Dexter Bedie claimed the bronze medal with a time of 10.87s.

Dylan, a student of Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Sabah, described the win as a big step forward in his young career. He has already recorded a season’s best of 10.52s.

“Whatever it is, I want to keep pushing for my personal best. Over four races I’ve been maintaining around 10.60, so it feels quite nice,” he told the Sarawak Tribune today when met at the track.

“For now, my target is the Malaysia Games (SUKMA). Hopefully I can continue to improve my PB, and one day maybe push for the SEA Games.”

The men’s 100m showdown was one of the highlights of the athletics programme at the Borneo Games Kuching 2025.
