SIMANGGANG: A total of 1,177 recipients of monthly social welfare aid here benefitted from the annual “Sejambak Kasih” programme, held in conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year.
The event, organised by the Sri Aman Division Social Welfare Department, was officiated by Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Simanggang assemblyman, at BME Hotel today (Feb 6).
Of the total recipients, 234 were from the Chinese community, with 100 attending the symbolic handover ceremony.
Harden said the initiative, which was held during major festive seasons such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, and Christmas, aimed to ease the financial burden of welfare clients while fostering a celebratory atmosphere.

The aid, funded under the GPS government programme and distributed via the Social Welfare Department, reflected the government’s commitment to supporting communities.
Harden also encouraged recipients to recognise government efforts and support GPS representatives in elections.
The Sejambak Kasih programme remains a highlight of festive celebrations in Sri Aman, bringing relief to welfare recipients and adding cheer to major festivals.
