SIBU: A suspected marital spat set off an anxious early-morning response after a local man abruptly left his home along Jalan Lanang, triggering fears for his safety.
Firefighters from Sibu central station were dispatched to the house, about 7km away, to assess the situation after receiving a distress call at 1.32 am.
It was reported that the man drove off alone in his white Mitsubishi Triton and later sent a photograph to his wife, believed to have been taken near Lanang Bridge.
Upon arrival at the home, firefighters advised the man’s wife to lodge a police report to facilitate further action.
The team later moved to the Lanang Bridge area to check for any sign of the man or his vehicle, but their search yielded no results.
Four attempts were made to reach the man by phone without success. When contact was eventually established, he told firefighters he was waiting for a call from his wife, hoping she would persuade him to return home.
The case was subsequently handed over to the police for further action, and firefighters concluded their operation after ensuring the matter was properly referred to the authorities.
